As disciples of Christ we seek to follow his example, come under the instruction of his teaching and to give ourselves completely to his work in his way.
Within Cornerstone City Church there are many different ways to be Hands On such as by serving in one of the many teams either on a Sunday morning or during mid-week.
However we really want to emphasise the truth that being a hands on disciple is far more than serving on a team, but it's a way of daily life.
We look in the Gospels and we see Jesus modelling a hands on approach so very different to the one modeled by the world around us.
When Jesus washes the disciples feet he takes the lowest place and honours and esteems those he comes into contact with. We see Jesus regularly meeting and eating with those that society has shunned, we see Jesus prioritising and prefering the disempowered and disadvantaged. And then we hear his words ringing in our ears telling us that as he was sent by the Father so he is sending us!
Being hands on is about being switched on to the everyday opportunities in your everyday world. It's about being brave enough to offer to pray for a work colleague when they tell you they have an injury. It's about putting others before yourself in such a way that the world around you takes notice. It's about prioritising your time and your life in such a way that it creates room and space for others to be blessed by you, and not in a begrudging way but full of joy knowing full well you are about the masters work. It's about not loving your own life so much that you would shrink back from death.
Seeing the world around you as a place of adventure and opportunity is a great way to start being hands on, to look to see what the father is doing and then get involved full of faith that as you do so He will do amazing things!
We serve the spiritual, physical and social needs in our church and in our society, extending the Kingdom of God in Word, deed and power.
