To be a disciple of God, we must make sure that we meet up in a meaningful way, in ways that are; purposeful, worthwhile and relevant. This means regularly meeting with people who also love, serve and honour God.
Why is this so important?
Hebrews 10:24-25 says, "let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
Meeting together is important because we can, 'stir up' each other. This means we can inspire, challenge and encourage one another. We can share testimonies of God's work in our lives, address issues where we may not be walking in God's fullness and as well as witness the gifts God has put into each one of us.
Why do we stir each other up? 'To love and good works'. What does that mean? It means we should inspire each other to demonstrate the love God has put in us. Then we should be naturally oozing the good works that come from that. If we love our brothers and sisters, our church and our community, then we will want to do good things for them.
To help each believer develop as a disciple of Christ, Cornerstone City Church has three spaces in which you can connect within the church. Each person would be encouraged to participate in each one to ensure that they develop as a disciple. The three spaces to connect are:
DNAs which are small groups of 2-4 people whom we meet and connect with regularly in order to Disciple, Nurture And be Accountable to one another. These are spaces to really get to grips with the Bible, prayer, spiritual gifts and our own personal growth, meeting others in a more in depth way. It's a two way thing; we invest, and we are invested in within these groups. We are discipled and discipling others.
MCs - Missional Communities are where people gather around either; people, passion, or place. The focus is not on our own personal growth, but a missional focus. The aim is to draw others into community, to develop friendships and share life with each other. Serving and supporting each other practically as well as emotionally and spiritually. It reflects the way the church in Acts took care of people in their communities. They were known for the love they had for each other, and they saw people saved every day. Let's aim for that!
Sunday service. This is where we corporately gather to worship God together, our joint expression of faith as a wider group. It's a place where you will experience spiritual gifts being used, and have the opportunity to get to know others.
Meeting in meaningful community is a challenging concept. It's easy to go along with a crowd, to go along to a club and not be truly known. This is how it could be if we only partly engage with the community around us.
We all have things we need to learn, and things we can teach. That's why community is important, so we can all benefit from each other's strengths. We can play our part in furthering God's kingdom when we meet in meaningful community.
