Every day more than 50 children are taken into care in the UK. They are removed from chaotic, traumatic, abusive, neglectful or desperate situations. Some of them need a home in an emergency. Some of them need a temporary home until they can return to their families. Some of them need an occasional home to give their families a break. Some of them need a permanent home with a new forever family.
As a result, there are currently 6,000 children waiting to be adopted and an additional 8,600 foster families are urgently needed. Families are particularly needed for older children (four plus), sibling groups, black and other ethnic minority children, and children with additional needs.
We believe that the Church is ideally placed to meet this need – both in terms of finding families that could foster or adopt and also in terms of providing an excellent community of support to wrap around families that foster or adopt.
Fostering and adoption is certainly not for everyone, however we believe that it could be for every church.
Wouldn’t it be great if our churches were known as places where looked-after children were welcomed and felt safe, and families that fostered and adopted felt supported?
We believe that the Church in the UK could find a home for every child who needs one. This would be good news! It Is a fantastic opportunity for the Church to make a difference in society, change our communities and transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in the UK.
This is why Home for Good exists and this is why we at Cornerstone City Church believe in actively encouraging, supporting and promoting foster & adoptive families.
We stand with families in our church who already foster or have adopted, we pray that others would faithfully consider doing so, and as a church family commit to supporting families that foster or adopt.
